VolunteersTo find out more about becoming a volunteer contact us: Highland Society for Blind People The Resource Centre 38 Ardconnel street Inverness IV2 3EX Tel: 01463 233663 Becoming A Friend“Bringing the outside world into my home” is how one lady described the difference that having a home visitor has made to her life. Visual impairment often leads to isolation and loss of independence. Older people especially can feel very lonely. As a home visitor you can visit people in their own homes, giving them the chance to talk to someone, or take part in activities that they enjoy but need support to do, e.g. going for a little walk or being taken to the local shops / supermarkets, helping them choose new clothes for a special occasion or pointing out what’s on special offer. Home visiting becomes a befriending experience and relationships built up can last many years and are an important part of both the visually impaired person and the home visiting befriender By offering an hour or two each week you can add so much to the quality of life of older visually impaired people. If you think you can give some time to meeting new people and developing new friendships which will directly impact on the lives of older visually impaired people in Ross-shire please get in touch with us today. We can match you up with someone near you who would love you to drop in and say hello. You may be the only visitor someone has had that week. |
