Helping With Our Social Clubs

Many older visually impaired people enjoy getting out and about and meeting others. For someone like me with impaired vision this is not always easy to do on my own. Can you imagine walking into a group of people you don’t know and can hardly see? How difficult managing a cup of tea and a plate with a scone can become when you can’t find a table? How do you chat to someone when you don’t know who they are?

Being able to attend a social group meeting of other visually impaired people is a delight and can do so much for my confidence and quality of life. We can chat and laugh together, spill our tea and drop our crumbs together, play bingo together, listen to others who have come to us with information and lots more. One such afternoon can set me up for the week and give me something to tell my family about.

But I can’t do this by myself or with others who are visually impaired. We need    someone to help us get organized and help us with practical tasks such as making the tea, calling out the numbers at bingo, helping us arrange speakers, reading a  letter, etc.

We have clubs running in Alness, Strathpeffer and Fortrose at the moment, all needing volunteer help.  We would also like to start others in Ross-shire but this only becomes possible if people come forward to help. Could you? I know you’d enjoy meeting new friends and  help me meet new friends too.

You could really make a difference to the lives of others like me.
