Driving

Visually impaired people enjoy getting out and about and meeting others. They particularly enjoy meeting up with others who are visually impaired, people who are experiencing the same difficulties and pleasures as themselves. Opportunities to meet helps build confidence and independence and are very rewarding. It also helps break down barriers of isolation and loneliness. We have recognized this and have encouraged the setting up of social groups throughout the area. At present there are groups meeting in Alness and Strathpeffer, with a new group starting in Fortrose. They meet on a monthly basis.

Travel to the groups always presents a problem for visually impaired people,  particularly older visually impaired people, and makes it difficult to get to the group meetings. We are looking for people who would be willing to drive for us, to help us bring the people wishing to attend groups together. An hour a month is all we would ask of your time.

The Society also has a minibus which is used to assist the groups have outings
three times a year. This normally involves half days away after having picked up group members and returning them to their home after the outings. A PSV licence is not necessary.

If you think you have time to spare, a clean driving licence and would like to help us provide this very useful service please get in touch.
